elland road park and ride

As cities continue to tackle congestion and air quality challenges, Park & Ride schemes are becoming a key part of modern transport strategies. These services encourage drivers to switch from cars to public transport for the final leg of their journey—helping to reduce city-centre traffic while supporting cleaner, more sustainable travel.

Cammax has played an important role in this transformation through the delivery of advanced smart ticketing technology at the Elland Road Park & Ride in Leeds. Designed to make travel easier and more efficient, the site has quickly become a preferred choice for commuters and visitors alike.

Safe, Reliable transport Into the city

A woman uses a green parking ticket machine at night, pressing buttons on the touchscreen. The scene is well-lit, suggesting a modern, urban setting.

Leeds City Council faced growing congestion and pollution issues in the city centre. With major events such as the Tour de France 2014 approaching, there was an urgent need to provide a convenient alternative to driving into the city.

In July 2013, Cammax was awarded a contract by the West Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (Metro) to design and supply state-of-the-art smart ticketing kiosks under a framework agreement serving 10 transport authorities.

Cammax Solution

Cammax worked closely with project partners to design, develop, and install robust 24-hour outdoor kiosks equipped with:

A blue "City Park & Ride" ticket machine stands at a bus stop with "Top Up And Buy Here" signage. Nearby, a pedestrian walks on a city street.

Outcomes

Commenting on the project, Leeds City Council's executive board member for the economy and development, Counsellor Richard Lewis, said:

“It is so simple to park up and jump on a bus as well as good value. We hope motorists will take this opportunity to leave their cars safely behind and enjoy a stress-free journey into the city.“

“Elland Road park-and-ride is set to remove hundreds of cars from Leeds city centre. We are committed to reducing congestion and pollution which this project will certainly help. It is just part of our upcoming plans to offer Leeds commuters more efficient and cheaper travel options. “
